NO SURPRISES? Martin Ho talks about Spurs’ astonishing season

Every week we talk about Spurs being a surprise package. Every week we say: they’ve won again, well, what a surprise.

But it seems to have gone beyond that now and we shouldn’t be surprised. So we asked Spurs head coach Martin Ho about this before they get into the business end of the WSL season.

Yeah, and I think if we’re looking in terms of where we finished last year, you can’t change that.

I’d understand why there’s some kind of apprehension around the team, the performance and so on. We’ve now moved in a totally different direction and hopefully brought a new energy and a passion and desire for this team on and off the pitch.

I hope that we’re spoken about in that breath and that’s credit to the staff and players who I work with every day that they’re able to put this team in that position where we’re spoken about in terms of teams people want you to slip up.

You now have more of more of a target on your back, people are expecting you to perform, people are expecting you to win.

And that’s where Spurs should be spoken about.

We should be spoken about in those conversations.

We shouldn’t be a team that’s spoken about in relegation.

And I’ll make sure that we’re not while I’m here.

We need to be competing on all fronts for competitions and for honours.

Moving forward now, we have to, as I always say, build on performance and find the consistency, but we have to also take that other pressure that comes with wearing a Spurs shirt and the players definitely know that.

Yeah, definitely. I think you don’t expect so much change so quick.

What I do expect is a commitment and a passionate desire from the players to be better and to prove people wrong and to want to win for the football club.

And we’ve definitely seen that.

So there’s no doubt in terms of the ability and quality of the players.

It’s more that you maybe don’t expect so much change from the position we were in.

But while you’re there, you have to give huge plaudits, as I said, to the players and the work they do, the staff and the work they do behind the scenes that goes unnoticed maybe.

So, yeah, I’m not kind of about that situation.

I’m not kind of a little bit kind of unsure that we were going to go so far, but I am definitely sure that we were going in the right direction with the work we were putting in.
